Welcome to Scituate Little League!

Summer Travel Baseball and Softball

The Summer Travel program is a more competitive level of play for players ages 8-16 for baseball and 8-18 for softball. Teams play against towns around the South Shore from late June through early August. There are typically 2 games per week, although that can vary among specific leagues. Games are typically scheduled for Monday-Friday. Most age groups also play in a weekend tournament. Practices are at least once a week and are scheduled at the discretion of the coaching staff.

Summer Travel team construction is much different than during our spring season. In the spring every player is guaranteed a spot on a team. We also strive to balance the teams for a more competitive season. SLL will follow a given summer league's age and eligibility rules when creating and entering a team into a summer league.

SLL's goal is to find a Summer Travel team for every interested player. However, given registration numbers, it is not always possible. The Summer Travel teams require a higher degree of commitment, and teams place a greater emphasis on winning (relative to spring). To that end, playing time can be uneven. By signing up for Summer Travel, you agree to that understanding.

Overall, when both practices and games are included, Summer Travel is a relatively intensive program. Recognizing that this is the vacation season, we do make modest allowances for family vacations without jeopardizing a player’s roster spot. However, the commitment to the team is a significant one. Longer vacations should be reserved for later in August when the season has ended. Parents and players are asked to be realistic about the significance of this commitment. This is especially important for Little League International baseball tournaments that have strict roster requirements.

Questions regarding the commitment level can be directed to [email protected]

8-Year-Old Baseball Players

SLL 8-year-old players participate in the Friendship League. Depending on the level of interest, one team or two equal teams will be formed.

The Friendship League is a long-established Eastern Massachusetts summer travel baseball league specially designed for 8-year-old baseball players to help them develop their baseball skills and to introduce young players, their managers, coaches, and families to Summer Travel baseball in a competitive, but friendly, environment.

Over 60 teams (between the East Conference based out of Braintree and West Conference based out of Foxboro) participate in the league. Team rosters must consist of 12-15 players. Teams play 8 regular-season games against surrounding towns.

Tentatively, the summer season will start the week of June 16. Scituate will have 4 home games and 4 away games per team. Scituate is in the East Conference and plays against teams from the South Shore.

  • Divisions will be organized on a M/W or Tu/Th schedule. A weekend game may be necessary to avoid scheduling games on or around July 4.

  • Playoffs tentatively begin the week of July 20, and the championship game is scheduled for Saturday, August 2. All teams qualify for the playoffs.

  • These dates are subject to change based on the Friendship Rules page

  • Makeup games may need to be held on a weekend.

  • Practices will be once or twice a week. If games are M/W then practice will be T/Th and vice versa.

9-to-12-Year-Old Baseball Players

There are two summer baseball leagues on the South Shore: Suburban Youth Baseball League and South River Baseball League. Suburban has an A league and a B league. South River mainly has one division per age group, with some exceptions for certain age groups.

Depending on the level of interest, one or two teams will be formed per age group. If there are not enough players in one age group to form a full team, SLL will consider combining two age groups to form a team for that group of players. These teams have played in the South River Baseball League in the past few summers.

Leagues typically schedule 10 regular-season games and conduct a playoff. Leagues make every attempt to avoid games on Saturday and Sunday; however, makeups due to weather may require some games to be played on the weekend.

Suburban Youth Baseball League

Consists of teams from the South Shore and is the highest level of competition during the summer baseball season. There are 4 age groups (9, 10, 11, and 12) and two leagues (A & B). The A league uses Cal Ripken age and Little League age depending on a town's affiliation. The B league will go by Little League age. Both program affiliations may play against each other during the regular season. Team must qualify for the playoffs.

Important Dates:

  • SLL has to decide by May 10 if teams are entering into the Suburban League.

  • June 23--A 10 and 9 and B League 12-11-10-9 season starts

  • July 10 -- A League 12 and 11 season starts

  • July 26-August 1-- A League 10-9 and B League 12-11-10-9 playoffs

  • July 29-August 2 -- A League 12-11 playoffs

The dates above are subject to change based on weather and the District 8 Tournament dates.

South River Baseball League

Last year divisions were broken down as follows:

  • 46//60 Fields

    • Evan Tanguay: 8-year-old and 9-year-old players

    • Minor Division: 10-year-old players

    • Richard Gallagher: 11- and 12-year-old players

    • Major Division: 12-year-old players (46/60 fields)

  • 50/70 Fields

    • Shaun Gallagher (50/70)

      • 12A

      • 11A

      • 11-12

Important Dates:

The season will begin on Monday, July 7, and run through Saturday, August 2.

Each team makes the playoffs, which will begin Monday, August 4, with final games scheduled for the weekend of August 9-10.

13-to-16-Year-Old Baseball Players

There are two summer baseball leagues for 13-, 14-, 15-, and 16-year-old players. If there are enough players who register in a particular age group to form a team, SLL will evaluate combining two age groups to form a team for that group.

Metro South Baseball

Consists of divisions for 13-, 14-, and 15-year-old teams. Each team plays 12 regular-season games. Each team makes the playoffs. The 13- and 14-year-old divisions have an A and B league.

Important Dates:

Metro South dates have not been posted.

South River Baseball League

Teams play on 60/90 diamonds.

  • Junior Division: 13-14-year-olds
  • Senior Division: 14-to-16-year-olds

Important Dates:

The season will begin on Monday, July 7, and run through Saturday, August 2.

Each team makes the playoffs, which will begin Monday, August 4, with final games scheduled for the weekend of August 9-10.

Summer Travel Softball Information

Scituate participates in the South Shore Softball League for 10U-18U, as well as in the South Shore Coastal Girls Softball League for 8-to-10-year-olds (rising 3rd- and 4th-graders). For SSSL, teams play 10 regular-season games (2 games a week) and must qualify for the playoffs.

The SSSL consists of 4 age groups (as determined by USA Softball age determination. Age is however old your daughter was on August 31, 2024):

  • 10U: Players who are USA Softball ages 8-9-10 (mostly girls currently in 3rd-5th grades)

  • 12U: Players who are USA Softball ages 11-12 (mostly girls currently in 6th-7th grades)

  • 14U: Players who are USA Softball ages 13-14 (mostly girls currently in 8th-9th grades)

  • 18U: Players who are USA Softball ages 15-18** (10th grade +)

** College players are NOT eligible

NOTE Re: 10U: Depending on numbers, we will have three teams: A/B, comprised primarily of current 4th/5th-graders, will play in 100% kid-pitch divisions. Current 3rd-graders can enroll a team in the C division, which is a hybrid of kid- and coach-pitch. This level is suggested for kids who are comfortable with the basic rules of softball and are looking to play in a more competitive league (e.g., umpires, called strikeouts, etc.). For current 2nd/3rd-graders who are looking for a less competitive summer experience, we will continue to play in the same league we play in during the Spring. Games are typically once a week and have more relaxed rules.

The number and composition of teams that Scituate enters at each age and skill level will depend on registration numbers.

Evaluations will be held Sunday, May 18, at SHS Turf 3 and will be conducted by coaches outside of that specific division (e.g., a D3 coach will conduct the 10U evaluations, a D2 coach will conduct the 18U evaluations, etc). In addition to in-person evaluations, Spring coaches will be providing midseason evaluations.

Evaluation times and levels are expected to be as:

  • 3:00-4:15 p.m. for 10U

  • 4:15 -5:30 p.m. for 12U

  • 5:45-7:00 p.m. for 14U

  • No 18U scheduled as of now

Important Dates:

  • SSSL teams will play 10 games, 2 per week. The exception being when July 3 and/or July 4 falls on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.

  • SSSL playoffs will be held at the conclusion of the regular season, usually the last week of July/early August.

  • 10U & 14U Divisions will play on Tuesday & Thursday nights.

  • 12U & 18U Divisions will play on Monday & Wednesday nights.

  • Game times are 6:00 p.m., unless mutually agreed upon by both teams to start earlier or play under lights.

Weekend Softball Tournaments

Included in the registration fee is entrance for the 10U, 12U, and 14U softball teams into a local weekend softball tournament.

  • 10U will enter either the Pembroke Kids Helping Kids Tournament on July 11-13 or the Marshfield Beach Blast on July 14-16

  • 12U and 14U teams will enter the Halifax Summer Smash, August 1-3

D1 Summer Softball Information

D1 players (current 2nd and 3rd grade) who are not part of the 10U team are eligible to play in the D1 Summer Softball League. Games are once a week, and Scituate typically plays Cohasset, Hingham, and Norwell. It is a continuation of the spring league structure.

Summer Town Baseball and Softball Information

This is a separate registration form.

The Summer Town program allows players to continue to develop skills and play games versus their peers in a relaxed atmosphere. The program is entirely volunteer-run and we will need multiple volunteers per age group to maximize skill development and oversee the practices and games.

Depending on registration numbers, SLL will create separate summer programs for 5U, 6U, 7U, and 8U. Practice/games will be during the week for 90 minutes. Each age typically has one event per week. Typically the 9U-12U players combine to have a practice/game once a week.

For K-1st grade softball depending on registration, K and 1st grade will have separate group in the summer. This will allow 1st-graders to learn what playing in D1 (2nd-3rd grade Spring program) is like and play games. For girls finishing K, they will continue to develop skills and play games. One event per week is the plan for these age groups for 90 minutes.
