Scituate Little League Code of Conduct
• I and my guests will be positive role models for players and encourage sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy, and by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, umpires, and spectators at every SLL event.
• I and my guests will not engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct at SLL events, such as booing or taunting, personal insults, or using profane language or gestures.
• I understand that while we strive to compete and win, experience and improvement are more important than winning at this level. Therefore, I will emphasize skill development, effort, and sportsmanship and how they benefit athletes above the outcome of any contest.
• I will ensure my child understands that it is never acceptable to
- openly dispute any call or decision by an umpire
- visually display any sign of dissatisfaction with an umpire's decision, including throwing any equipment (disappointment in a result is natural, criticism - implied or expressed - of an umpire’s call is not)
- use obscene or vulgar language at any time.
- taunt players, managers, coaches, umpires or spectators by means of baiting, ridiculing, negative comments, threat of physical violence or physical violence.
• I and my guests will engage in "No-Directions Cheering", limiting my comments during the game to encouraging my child and other players (from both teams), and not attempting to coach from the sidelines. I will allow my child’s coaches to coach the team, or volunteer to coach myself.
• I and my guests will refrain from ANY negative comments about my child's coach in the presence of other players or spectators, so that I do not negatively influence my or any other child's motivation and overall experience.
• I and my guests will respect the officials and their authority during games and will never question, discuss, or confront umpires or coaches at the game field.
• I WILL WAIT 24 HOURS before contacting any coach or league official to discuss or dispute any issue arising during a game, practice or other SLL event.
• I will demand a sports environment for my child that is free from drugs, tobacco, and alcohol, and I and my guests will refrain from their use or being under their influence at all SLL events.
• I also agree that if I or my guests fail to abide by the aforementioned rules and guidelines, I will be subject to immediate disciplinary action that may include, but is not limited to, ANY of the following as deemed appropriate by the SLL Disciplinary Committee:
- Verbal warning by umpire, head coach, and/or member of league organization
- Written warning
- Game suspension for parent/guardian, and/or guest with written documentation of incident
- Season suspension for parent/guardian and/or guest with written documentation of incident
• I understand that refusal of parents, guardians, volunteers, or guests to comply with league disciplinary action may result in PLAYER suspension or expulsion from Scituate Little League.
